Surviving the Post-Apocalyptic Market

The major indices hit new rally highs on April 26, just eight days before a systematic failure dubbed the “flash crash” dropped the Dow Jones Industrial Average nearly 1,000 points in just a few minutes. While the markets bounced as quickly as they fell, the impact of the event still reverberates through the ticker tape [...]

Yo-Yos

There are three types of traders in this world: winners, losers and yo-yos. It doesn’t take much effort to comprehend the virtues of winning or the liabilities of losing, but what exactly constitutes a yo-yo trader? Quite simply, these [...]

Insurance: -11%
REITs: -7%
Defense: -4%
Drugs: -3%
Telecom: -3%
Transportation: -3%
Oil: -3%
Utilities: -1%

Banks are the real kicker on this list because of all the recovery hype. Their 6-month performance shows they’re still “critically injured, with a “guarded” outlook into year’s end.

Honor Your Stops…Really

One picture is worth a thousand words. Look at the price action on Matrixx Initiatives (MTXX) after the FDA warned about its popular Zicam cold remedy, right in the middle of Wednesday morning’s session.

The stock dropped nearly 14 points in under 30-minutes. I can’t find a better argument for placing and honoring your stops, because [...]

Natgas Futures: A Whole Lot of Nothing

Springtime For Agricultural Sector

Agricultural stocks are finally heating up, after lagging the broad market for many months. This follows the quickening pace of the raw materials rally, which is lifting all sorts of energy, industrial and metals companies.

Potash (POT) is a top performer here. The stock has rallied back to November resistance in the mid 90s for the [...]
